Who We Are

About Us

Starting in 2021 Sara Sutherland and Melanie Elliott became the operating partners for the organization. Sara started as a stylist in 2000 with Great Clips. She has been working in the business since then and managed the very first location ever opened in East Tennessee back in 2003. Melanie has been with the organization since 2010 and manages the home office. Together with a senior leadership team of 6 General Managers, an Assistant Director of Operations, and a Talent and Education Manager we support over 50 locations in East and Middle Tennessee as well Bowling Green, Ky.

We also believe in giving back to the community. Every year we do a charity event for East TN Childrens Hospital at the TN Valley Fair and raise thousands of dollars in donations. We also participate in the Childrens Miracle Network balloon campaign every year.

We are a family run business. Because of that we focus on creating a salon family culture. We want everyone to feel comfortable, happy and cared for.

We focus on kindness and doing what’s in the best interest of our team. We want them to be successful in their career with Great Salons as well as their personal life. We focus on growing people in the organization and creating opportunities for them.

We also love our customers and want them to feel that way. We work to be there and available for our customers when they need us. We provide ongoing education to our stylists to ensure they get the service they deserve.

We feel that community and being involved is very important. We want to give back. We participate in several charity events. Help out with fundraisers and events that are important in the communities that we serve.

I think my story can be super relatable! I chose Great Salons because they offer something I have never found, a company that you work for that understands you day to day because they have been in your shoes before. They offer opportunities to the people within and I think that’s so important. To work at Great Salons is AMAZING! The company has built a great culture for everyone else to build off of. It is a group of supportive people that want to see you succeed. They offer more than just a job. One of my favorite things about Great Salons is they recognize their stylists in every way possible! They listen to our opinions and we have a voice within the company. The time taken to get to know every employee individually is not only important to me but also important to them.

I started at Great Clips as a receptionist while I was in Beauty School. I learned SO MUCH MORE about cutting hair while being on the floor watching my fellow stylists. My team was great with answering questions and explaining the cuts. I felt so comfortable transitioning from receptionist to stylist after passing my board exams. While I was in school we had a visit from a local Great Clips stylist and by the end of their visit I knew that this was the place I wanted to work. Great clips has a guaranteed base wage on top of commission and not worrying about booth rent and booking clients was such a relief. Add on all the other benefits- insurance, paid time off, and getting a w2 I knew then I was SOLD.
