Our History

Founded in 2003 by Don and Laura Elliott, our company was built on a passion for people, community, and creating opportunities within the salon industry. Over the last 20+ years, that vision has grown into one of the top-performing markets in the Great Clips system, with 26 successful salon locations throughout East Tennessee.

Today, the family legacy continues alongside their daughters, Sara and Melanie, whose leadership, dedication, and commitment to growth help drive the company forward while keeping the family-centered culture at the heart of everything we do.

We believe our stylists are the foundation of our success. That’s why we focus on taking care of the people who take care of our guests. From competitive benefits and ongoing education to a fun, supportive work environment, we are committed to helping every team member thrive both professionally and personally.

Beyond the salon, giving back to our community is one of our core values. We proudly support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and every dollar we raise stays right here in East Tennessee, helping local children and families receive the care they need. We are also honored to provide free haircuts for veterans each Veterans Day, participate in Great Clips’ Clips of Kindness program, and support Wigs for Kids by helping provide hair replacements for children experiencing hair loss. Through these efforts, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve every day.

I think my story can be super relatable! I chose Great Salons because they offer something I have never found, a company that you work for that understands you day to day because they have been in your shoes before. They offer opportunities to the people within and I think that’s so important. To work at Great Salons is AMAZING! The company has built a great culture for everyone else to build off of. It is a group of supportive people that want to see you succeed. They offer more than just a job. One of my favorite things about Great Salons is they recognize their stylists in every way possible! They listen to our opinions and we have a voice within the company. The time taken to get to know every employee individually is not only important to me but also important to them.

I started at Great Clips as a receptionist while I was in Beauty School. I learned SO MUCH MORE about cutting hair while being on the floor watching my fellow stylists. My team was great with answering questions and explaining the cuts. I felt so comfortable transitioning from receptionist to stylist after passing my board exams. While I was in school we had a visit from a local Great Clips stylist and by the end of their visit I knew that this was the place I wanted to work. Great clips has a guaranteed base wage on top of commission and not worrying about booth rent and booking clients was such a relief. Add on all the other benefits- insurance, paid time off, and getting a w2 I knew then I was SOLD.
